Happy Birthday, Dingbat!

Well, I suppose I have to post at some point.

Life synopsis since last sensible post:

Friday before Christmas – rabbit died. Bit of a bugger, died of hypothermia after presumably having some kind of normal rabbit gut disaster problem (i.e. colic), and he had a heart attack while being warmed up (risk of warming hypothermic things up unfortunately). Only 2 years old.

Christmas Day – amazingly organised pre-Christmas! Calm and collected was The Big Day, with food being presented and eaten mostly on time (considering also that I was cooking for not only us but also next door, 6 people in all, 3 course meal with different starters), which was smashing.

Boxing Day – started off as expected, down south for the day with family, and then it all became more unexpected with Ding’s bf of 1 1/2 years (Dong – can’t let a nickname like that pass me by) turning up in the evening, walking in, muttering something about housing, and then proposing to Ding in front of the whole family! Me, mum and dad knew he was planing it, but he told us he was proposing on New Year, so bit of a shock all round really!

She said yes, by the way.

To Grandma’s for the Traditional Christmas Indian meal (I had Chinese – rebel), where I got asked to be not only a bridesmaid but the chief one, which initially was brilliant but since has got me worried; I’ve been informed that the rule is “three times a bridesmaid, never a bride” and since I was a bridesmaid at 4 and again last year… I have been reassured that at the age of 4, One is a flower girl. However I had strew no flowers. Hm.

Oh New Year (by now things were getting somewhat hectic, and I’d caught The Cold Bug (you know the one, you know someone who’s had it even if you haven’t had it yourself)) our home became a pub for the night. Regardinging late hours, freely availably alcohol and random daft entertainment there wasn’t much change from our usual home, but the subtle addition of “teams” made it a Pub. My team lost, despite the fact we had the best name (The Must Get Beers vs Bar Trek vs Gin’ll Fix It). There were darts also.

Then we had the central heating done. I totally advise getting the central heating done in January – 100% excuse for fan heaters on constantly. We’ve never been warmer.

Been PHPing til my eyes fell out (it was messy). New book by Jono Bacon, recommend if you are capable of editing what you read (on the basis that the editors didn’t edit it before it was printed). Some gaps, but good practice in PHP nonetheless.

Back to work and I’ve hit upon some actual interesting bits. Which is novel. Concentrating mostly on meeting a non-specifically-work related deadline at the end of Feb though – oddly I have found it fairly easy to concentrate on mind numbing no-brain data entry. Possibly my ideal career. Who needs a brain, anyway?

Last Friday (16th) AnM took me for my Christmas meal to Archipelego – a tiny (and I mean TINY) exotic food restaurant near Warren Street. Eccentric doesn’t even begin to approach the edges of this restaurant. Eccentric runs home and hides under the blankets. It’s amazingly barmy, with African art and ornaments on every surface, no fork, knife, wineglass or candle holder matches any other, and the piece de resistance was AnM straight faced’ly ordering over the phone at Liverpool Street; “could we have the rabbit and the crocodile to start, and the zebra and kangaroo for main”. The crocodile was unbelieveably fantastic – I highly recommend it, the rabbit someone less amazing but still very nice, the zebra much like pork I felt, AnM thought more like beef, and the kangaroo again, really delicious. See the menu for details; I’m too lazy here. Oriental flavours in general, but sublimely done. Oh and pudding was the chocolate lover’s delight – delightful iced cream (I intentionally highlight that it was cold cream, no ice crystals – lush), hot chocolate cake with hot dark chocolate sauce. Arghgle…..

Then me and AnM met up with Dingledell and went to stay at her’s and Dong’s for the night – much eating of fahitas was had (scrummy) and much playing of Indiana Jones on the x-box was also had… Oh and much sleeping – we are a group that appreciates downtime.

So to today! In Other News, some president somewhere got inaugerated, and in typical me form I actually was watching the actual moment of inaugeration (the fact I’d watched Kim and Agi’s How Clean Is Your House in preference for the preceeding 30 minutes notwithstanding) when a random home improvement company decided to call and offer me a quote. And so, I missed the 20 minutes of History (capital H) I was supposed to watch. But hey, I could have got a really good quote. If I owned a house. And wanted to extend it. Into its already small garden.

But the main event for today is that it’s Ding’s 25th Birthday! A quarter of a century of Ding! I hope she had a great day – she didn’t respond to my text, but then, I ignore her’s so that’s par for the course. She’s had to pick her own present, as caught between a cough, a being-generally-crap and not wanting to buy more clutter, I couldn’t think of something useful and good for a present. This is good though – people should chose their presents. Then they’d get what they want.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DINGBATIENWHOOP!!!!!!

(note not only the colours BUT number of exclamation marks. Oh yes.)
