The mundane and the marvellous

When I have my own garden, I want a solar calendar. Potentially also a lunar one, although I feel this may be more difficult to arrange. Brian Cox’s Wonders of the Universe ended today, and although at points it felt a little like astrophysics for beginners (which I suppose it is) at other points I felt like I should take notes. And the overriding thought is that I want a solar calendar.

Allotment is going well (ish) in that it has some plants in it (always good for an allotment). As of last weekend we now have potatoes, early and maincrop, installed, broad beans in, mangetout, red and white onions (that’s red onions and white onions, not some fantastic new combination of the two) and garlic, and that’s on top of the raspberry, blackberry (or blueberry? or black currant? I get confused), various colours of gooseberry bushes, two rhubarbs and some badly planted asparagus Ding and I got out when it was still cold and miserable. So, progress. I am slightly worried about longevity as watering is not Dad’s strong point and I am only around on the weekends, but we shall have to see.
