Domesticated Me

Plum jam syrup! (it didn’t set…) Plums bought from a honest box – £1 a kilo. Bargainicous. May have to re-boil it today to try and set it again  :/

Hedgerow jelly! The only purchased items were two gala apples to add more pectin, otherwise that’s blackberries, elderberries, rosehips, sloes and green apples from the hedgerows of Essex. This one did set – yay! Plus we have elderberries and sloes in the freezer for later projects. I only got about eight rosehips on this walk, they aren’t ready yet, so rosehip season (my favourite jelly) is yet to come!

Courgette cake! From the BBC, http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/633634/chocolate-courgette-cake – successful recipe! The courgette in question was a 1.9kg marrow… and despite ditching the seeds, making these two cakes, and also attempting a courgette loaf (of bread) there is still some left…

Also today, Dad and I went to the allotment and weeded. We found the lone carrot amongst the meadow, but also found six beetroots we didn’t know were in there too, so cleared around them to give them a chance. I dug up the early potatoes (not so early) so we have potatoes for dinner, many pre-sliced due to my spade action!
