Got some kind of virus replicating in my throat – not pleasant.

My lappy is still in Portsmouth – waiting for them to get around to looking at it apparently  I’m not impressed – I sent it back last Thursday, so it arrived there Friday. I phone the following Wednesday for an update and was told by a rather offensive woman that they were going to start testing it Thursday. So yes – peeved to say the least.

I’m currently pushing my luck by trying to download Suse onto a college computer to burn it to cd to try and install a working DOS on Neville the mad laptop. Neville’s story is a sad one – he’s about 6 or 7 years old, originally brought into the world with 64mb RAM and a 2GB hdd. He then underwent some major surgery and is now a 40GB with an extended RAM that’s about 3 figures longer than his old one. However, the rest of him is still small, slow and mad. Suffice to say, he can’t cope. It’s possible to scandisk him in msdos but scandisking or defraggling in windows fails non-stop. So I’m going to try partitioning him and installing linux in the hope that he’ll stabilise. All this is more for fun that for any hope of using him – he doesn’t even understand what usb is.

Hmm – can’t download suse onto college network – something about using over 400% of my alloted space. Scrooges…

I’ve had a productive day! Most chuffed, yes. I awoke at some ungodly hour (i.e. 10.30am) and met Lu in college at 11am for some productive project working. I didn’t mean to stay so late but I was there until 4pm. I finished all 298 rats! Plus I participated in my clubs during my breaks from entering data. I might go back tomorrow to play with some graphs and decide what to study – depends how bored I get at home.

On the way home from college I went to Tesco’s for apparently an entire hour and stocked up on produce – in theory enough to last me some time. Plus I got a load of new stationary – something which is a sure fire way of getting me to revise and work. Coloured highlighters, pencils and new folders have that effect on me.

I returned home and cooked myself a proper dinner (chicken in one of those creamy packet sauces and potato wedges in likewise packet seasoning – didn’t quite go together but I liked it). S and I chatted a lot, we cleaned out the fridge, re-arranged the freezer and I am hopefully dog sitting on Tuesday.

I then ironed my shirt! This may seem like something fairly banal but I have never ironed in my life before (23 years old, your point?). It was such a novelty I ironed my newly washed pillows and duvet as well, and a vest. I noticed the vest was unhemming itself which brings us to my next achievement.

I got out my new sewing machine (who needs a name, like all good appliances) and I re-hemmed my vest. Not the neatest job ever but the first piece of clothing I’ve let myself lose on with my new toy. Then since my joints have been aching recently I took some of the spare checked fleece fabric Sonata gave me months ago and I made a little wrist warmer! It’s even fitted! I’m obscenely impressed with myself! I’d take a photo of it but my camera is full of film of my wonderous restarting computer. So you’ll have to see it later. It works really well – a tiny bit of extra warmth makes all the difference!

So I feel super productive today :) I’m planning to do some work later since I’m in such a good mood – I’ve already tabbed all the pages in our current set of notes (handy coz the blasted thing has no index and no apparent logical order) so I might use my highlighters…

Amazing the things you learn on the Leakest Wink. I thought the recent US silliness regarding french fries was an indication of how politics/propaganda of recent years has gone loopy. However it appears that during WWII sauerkraut was lovingly renamed to nothing less than Liberty Cabbage. It’s stupid – wars come and go and people still have to get on with each other afterwards. Why engender bigotism by renaming foodstuffs?! Admittedly we renamed the German Shepherd Dog the Alsatian, but at least we didn’t call it the “Brave Honour Dog” or something ridiculous, and most people were unaware the breed name switched. Boggling.

I’m halfway through my rats! 151 of 302. I did have 314 but I had to delete a few for lack of information and one person who thought they could fill it in with obviously fake info for a chance of winning the raffle. I do not be borned yesterday. 2 of the 302 are not too useful as they lack ages (it’s a study on longevity) which, assuming all the rest are useable, leaves me with a perfect 300. That’ll raise the suspicions of the examiners!

Tis boring work though – I’ve been going for almost an hour and a half now and I’ve done 50 rats. Better crack on!

Mumble mumble

*thinks back* now…what did I do to deserve this? The laptop has gone wrong again. Worse – it’s going seriously wrong (not booting, spontaneously restarting when it does manage it) but I can bet you anything that it’ll behave when I send it back again. Last night I could get it to crash (see why I was trying later) pretty much on command. This morning, I overwhelmed it but couldn’t get it to crash. Luckily last night I filmed it booting and failing to boot, and then on the suggestion of the Frog I caused it to restart and filmed it restarting!

Sounds to me and my dad like some kind of hard drive failure – chkdsk finds errors but can’t fix them (I reported that to the technicians but they did nothing about it). Dad’s computer did a similar thing only a few days ago and his technicians (company computer) simply replaced the hdd.

You get what you pay for I suppose.

On a pluser note, my rat project has finished and it looks like I’ll have some fun doing stats on it – lots to look at. Also tis a house warming for a friend tonight so I get to be social and all that.

And so my lappy has returned and I’ve almost finished rebuilding him :) Just gotta add WS_FTP and we should be done!

Being computerless has encouraged me to not spend my entire life on the infernet. So I’m off now to get a caffine infusion of some kind to reawake my brain (only got 4 hours sleep) and do some work.

I only got 4 hours sleep because a housemate returned Saturday and my house is a pigsty. However, I chatted to her today and I think all will be well – she’s having her own problems and seems to be more receptive to my neurocisms re: tidiness. Despite the fact she’s disappeared tonight and I’ve been left to feed the dogs with no message from her – rather odd…
