Superstition

It’s 2am – I’m turning my body clock around to cope with nights next week.

The “kids” (untidy housemates) have gone away for 2 weeks so it’s just me and the tidy housemate alone – we celebrated with a mass cleaning episode. We went shopping today to the farm shop and as we were pondering the meat counter we saw they had rabbit, and decided to take the plunge. So Sunday lunch tomorrow will be rabbit casserole…

Very odd as I feel that by eating rabbit it’s somehow unlucky for my poorly bun upstairs. Silly supersitions and paranoia. Bah. As for the bun, I was going to hold of her meds today as because dosages are unknown for buns etc, you can overdose unwittingly and it’s best to give a day off every now and then to let them catch up. However, she looked so crap that I ended up having to give them. At least now I know they are probably working – she looks unhappy and so possibly in pain when she doesn’t get them.

Sheer terror…

…is trying to get references. Meep! I’ve emailed four clinicians *fingers crossed*

I’m in a mood this evening… dunno why. Angry with everything. Mostly malevolent forces in my online hobby club. Bah humbug. Gonna phone me mum and have a bath, then watch telly. Bah.

Having been warned by Farm that they mark lower that other rotations I am happy to report that I got a good mark and they haven’t in fact brought my average down! Apparently getting an A is rare – I’ll have to ask others to find out if this is true.

Small Animal General – 69% (C B C C C C)
Pathology – 81% (B B B B B C)
Equine Medicine – 78% (B C B C B B)
Anaesthesia – 86% (B B B B B A)
Small Animal Medicine – 86% (B B B B B A)
Equine Surgery – 81% (B C B C B A)
Small Animal Surgery – 78% (B C C C B A)
Farm Animal – 78% (C C B A B C)

Running average = 79.62%. One more rotation to go O.O

Wards today was stressful. My nice clean labcoat that my mother had ironed lovingly got covered in pee, poo and blood within about 5 minutes. So that’s now back in the wash in an attempt to get it washed and dried before tomorrow. I do have spares but I prefer that one. Plus the spare has black stains on the cuffs that won’t shift either. I’ll never understand why people who work with animals and are the target of daily poo, pee, blood and vomit attacks should be required to wear white…

Domesticated housemate is cooking dinner tonight! I prepared the chicken a la Jamie Oliver with butter, salt and herbs and she’s cooking the rest. Saffron rice thingy with greek yoghurt or so I’m told. Where’s my tea? Ah found it. Having the rabbit cage bound has allowed me to use my floor for putting things on, and I’m taking full advantage of it – I can’t close my door. Anyway, for pudding we have Gu – chocolate hot souffle pudding – looks yum and currently reduced in Tescos! It kinda looks like the one on the M&S pre-Christmas adverts. Plus they come in real glass ramikins. So basically, that’s two glass ramikins for £1.49, with two free chocolate puddings included. Bargain.

Right, I’m off to tidy my room, clean the invalid, drug her up and make her some dindins. Soupy twist!

Funny old world. For some reason Philly the desktop keeps me logged in at the forum but not into my blog, whereas the laptop who’s name I’ve forgotten (Larry or Annabelle – could be either, probably explains why it’s insane) does the opposite. Bizarre.

3 weeks to go of rotations. How weird is that? I spent the last week at Blue Cross which was pretty good – we get quite a bit of free rein there which is interesting, if paralysingly terrifying on the first day. Next it’s dermatology so tomorrow will be spent reading my derm book, in between ward shifts (covering for a friend).

The rabbit is ill, and in an odd way. I don’t know if I blogged it but at the beginning of the previous rotation (Farm) 5 weeks ago now we drove back to PB with a heavily overstuffed car and a hamster. Rabbit had a bad journey as her cage wasn’t the right way around and she had trouble balancing. From 10 days after that she was ill – not in any real obvious way, just not eating well, depressed. I emailed a clinician at the college hospital for help (not that the college really does rabbits) and she got better spontaneously. Maybe she saw me doing the email, or maybe it was the fact I brought her smokey bacon crisps – who knows. Then 3 days before driving back home for this rotation a week ago she became quiet and inappetant again and has been so since. She’s also now totally lame on her right foreleg, but we (me and my vet) can’t get any pain in the leg. So she’s on antibiotics, painkillers and cage rest to see what happens. Very weird.

Takeaway’s here!

Finals Countdown

Soooo cold. It’s officially 15 degrees C in my bedroom. That’s with the radiator on 5 and my computer going. Even rabbit has taken to sitting under the radiator, which perhaps tells me it’s getting beyound a joke. I could cling film the window… *goes on clingy crusade*

Clingy crusade complete, my window is now triple glazed. I have also increased the efficiency of my window blanket, which now is much closer to the window, thus eliminating those pesky draughts.

So, what am I up to. I made a pillow for Ding, which was peacock blue with a peacock outlined in gold fabric paint and little bead highlights. That was her b’day present.

I’m on Farm rotation at the moment; just finished week 3 of 4. Which means I’ve got 5 weeks to go of rotations. Crikey… Joyously our first non-rotation event is exams.

There’s not a lot to tell really. I must be a very boring person. Rotations are fun, one housemate is great, the other two are messy and wasteful but otherwise ok, rabbit was ill but is now fine. The big things in my life are organising my last 3 weeks of EMS at vet practices for which the deadline is looming, and getting references for my job application. And that’s scary… it’s hard to ask for references when you aren’t sure if the person in question even remembers you… :-/
