Today they had Sherlock Holmes day on ITV3 with Jeremy Brett (<333) as Holmes in back to back episodes. I think I watched 4 or 5… and now I want to by the box set of all 41 (41!?) when I have money.

Speaking of which, memo to me – get job.

Holmes Avatar

That’s my new avatar for IM – made it myself too ;)

And because it will always be my favourite joke (and the official funniest joke in 2001):

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson go on a camping trip. After a good dinner and a bottle of wine, they retire for the night, and go to sleep.
Some hours later, Holmes wakes up and nudges his faithful friend. “Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.”
“I see millions and millions of stars, Holmes” replies Watson.
“And what do you deduce from that?”
Watson ponders for a minute.
“Well, astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful, and that we are a small and insignificant part of the universe. What does it tell you, Holmes?”
Holmes is silent for a moment. “It tells me, my dear Watson” he says, “that someone has stolen our tent!”

Tehe!

I think she’s definately happy after 10 drinks, and she’s spent all her money and is now poor, but I could be wrong…

And the next one (in respose to “I’m sorry to hear that – have you tried stealing drinks?”)

I think she’s moved on to her switch card, but that’s all I got from that…

And on it goes! I didn’t text her back this time…

And so tomorrow I get to be a tourguide. Can someone please explain why the person who likes talking to groups but mucks it up all the time has volunteered to lead people around for 4 hours? And no – the free bacon sarnie breakfast wasn’t the whole reason…

And no – I haven’t learned my lines. I had an exam based on my project on Thursday and got through that by reading my project once through (and boy, did it show), I’m hardly likely to revise for tourguidingness. Ha!

I made a pretty!

Hooma

There was a young woodlouse called Dave,
Who’d spent most of his life in a cave.
He thought this was grand,
But it got out of hand
And his home soon became his own grave.

Save the world

Interesting… Worth a play methinks. I’ve already donated my spare processing power to Skype, might as well let this program have some too. Tis a more worthy cause than Skype…

Today was the last episode of It’s Not Easy Being Green – a compelling show, and one that makes me want to grow vegetables after I watch it. I don’t really eat vegetables, but I want to grow them. Sadly I live on a computer in a house with wasteful people who, and I quote, “can’t be bothered to recycle”. I do my small bit (bar the whole 12 hour-a-day+ computer powering), but would like to do more… Still, this weekend one wasteful one goes away for 4 weeks, and one goes away for 8 weeks leaving me and fellow hippy housemate to happily shiver with no heating, live stinkily to avoiding wasting water on us and our clothes and recycle anything that stays still long enough. High days and holidays!

How irritating – I went to a site and Firefox shut down. I was mid-blog as well.

Anyway, what I had said before being rudely interrupted was “Where is Lord Toaster?” or words to that effect, and lammented that after 534 thousand years online he has disappeared. Although it may just be me – if someone reading this tries the Stray Toaster link in my Innocent Bystanders list and it works, let me know. As far as I know he’s been abducted by aliens, or worse, got a LifeTM! If ST himself doth read this, posteth and leteth me knoweth!

It was Kirsty’s site that killed my browser, or rather, the Tango’d Bravia ad. I love the Bravia ad – I even went so far as to buy the toon on iTunes. Tis called Heartbeats. I almost said “so cool it got onto Now 63″ but then my brain engaged. Now isn’t cool. Except in being so uncool it’s cool. Now 29 is cool. *listens to toon* man that’s cool. Makes the worries of the world just slide easily away… like little balls bouncing down a San Francisco hill…

Another cool toon (I’ve been spending a lot lately) is Sandi Thom’s “I wish I was a punk rocker”. If you haven’t heard it, try it. It grew on me with one pass.

Lot’s of people seem to be vamoosing. I feel a bit like that Star Trek Next Gen ep where Beverly is stuck in a warp bubble that mimics real life but bit by bit the people and the ship around her cease to exist as the bubble shrinks around her. Oo-er, creepy thought. All but three of my Bystanders have ceased posting, one has disappeared totally, and even Queen of Wands has stopped updating. It’s me, Sonata, Kirsty, Ben and Two Lumps against the world… the world what is shrinking around us…

Oh wow, the Bravia website has bouncey ball wallpapers! And a screensaver! *squees*

And in case you thought it was a joke…

Bomb Disposal Truck

Today I got up early (9.30 is early!) and went to St Albans farmers’ market with Little Chef and her brother. Fab market – would recommend it. Only on once a month sadly so I have to wait 4 weeks for the next one. After that we went to Hampstead Heath to walk the dog, who had much fun harassing and being harassed by other dogs and joy of joy no one was mauled! I’m happier having her off-lead now – she doesn’t jump up at strangers and implant muddy feet on them (except men who say hello to her and imo that’s their own foolishness) and she would rather run away from dogs than fight them – even when faced with a trio of a doberman, a mastiff and a miniature schnauzer. I was impressed!

Home for a quick snooze then back to Little Chef’s for a BBQ, except (being wild and outrageous vet students) we cooked our food (bought at the market) under the grill and ate it in the lounge watching Top Gear. Oh the high life! I’m sure we impressed her brother no end, what with our dismal performance of 8 vet students falling asleep by 10pm at the pub last night. 10pm? That’s an hour past my bedtime I’ll have you know!

Well, today was a weird one. Last night was a BBQ at a local friend’s. I didn’t initially want to go really – fancied a night in and an early night – but go I did, and I took Cindydog with me. My friend didn’t have an enclosed garden so dog was kept on an extendable lead, which turned out to be a good idea as she kept trying to steal people’s food and did in fact drink wine, cider and champagne, sometimes without the owner of the drink noticing (fear not, I did alert them to the contamination). It turned out to be a good night, and I ping-ponged home at 1am with a delighted dog, and fell drunkenly into my house. I tried to be quiet but failed, however that turned out to be pointless as my housemates were out themselves and in fact wok me up coming home at 5am (dog refuses to let people sneak in, and I’d locked them out so had to get up and let them in anyway).

So that was Friday. Drunken ping-ponging, drinking games and all in all a good end to our final every week of teaching ever in the whole wide world ever.

This evening (Saturday) I was asked to the pub by another friend, but as I’d spent the day doing my washing I only had my posh clothes to wear and went feeling rather overdressed. However, fate was a-smiling and a certain crush of mine was there also, making me looking stunning totally accidental. Fabtastic.

On a weird note, i was at the pub and got a call from a housemate saying the police had turned up asking them to stay at the back of the house and open windows as they’d found an unexploded shell in the garden of the house opposite! Apparently the army were called in and everything. They haven’t told us it’s ok yet but the street is empty of emergency folk so we’re assuming it isn’t planning on exploding…

More broccoli?*

Stressed. Housemates dirty, irresponsible, petty children. Fighting between housemates. Not happy. Stressed. Wondering why bothered with all this. Not worth effort. Want to live in cave in hillside as planned.

* From Emperor’s New Groove
Esma: *mutters through clenched teeth while hitting one piece of broccoli over the “head” of the other* (Hit him over the head!)
Kronk: *can’t understand her muttering* …More broccoli?
