I’ve been thespianised. July 29th, 2006 And it wasn’t painful! My mum took me and nan to her Utopia, Stratford-Upon-Avon, for a break and to see Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek for the uninitiated) as Prospero in Shakespear’s The Tempest. She knows I have always hated Shakespear and thought it overrated and that I find most plays hard to follow and at times, boring. So we all knew I was there for Patrick Stewart, plain and simple. The surprise? I understood every word. I understood the entire plot and got all the jokes (the comic timing of the actors was superb). I was totally absorbed and engrossed and didn’t want it to end. I now want to go and see King Lear (with another hero, Sir Ian McKellen in it – saw him in Dance of Death a few years ago, brilliant) which is on next year, and Antony and Cleopatra which has Patrick Stewart as Antony, which is on now – hopefully we’ll still get seats (am going with AnM).

It also (and probably more of a draw – sorry Patrick) has another actor in common with the Tempest. Julian Bleach played the spirit Ariel amazingly in The Tempest – utterly captivating. I found myself watching him instead of PS, who was who I was supposed to be watching (having never seen PS in real life before). Anyway, he plays the clown in A&C ;) *drools quietly* ahem, great acting yes. I feel I am doing him a diservice – although very nice to look at I do appriciate the acting too! I’m not totally shallow. Anyway. Tomorrow I move home to my flat that is hopefully nice and clean. On Monday I start my new job. I am totally terrified, and also will be sans internet until I get it installed (a priority). I’m debating whether to bother with a landline (don’t need one for Telewest broadbean I believe) or whether to operate off Skype and my mobile… given my high computer usage, Skype isn’t an unreasonable option, and my mobile is always on after all. Decisions, decisions.

Rugs, pillows and throws. I went to get the keys to my new flat today. I don’t know whether I had my eyes shut last time I was there or if the girl who’s stayed there since is an Olympic Mess-Maker, but oh my is it dirty. We’re having a blitz tomorrow – flash, carpet stain remover, the lot. And lots of rugs and throws for the yukky carpets and sofa. Yeuch… I’m sure it’ll be lovely when finished. My last place was not-so-affectionately known as Grubby House before we got it. Gah – don’t wanna grow up!

I suppose I should post an entry, shouldn’t I? After getting our results, me and the girls round the corner went to see POTC 2 to celebrate. Very wicked indeed – must go again! And on Saturday, we went to Magaluf! We = 112 vets in one hotel in the middle of Chavland. Oh didn’t we feel at home (not).

It was a good week in a way – in that we did rather take over the resort to some extent – they aren’t used to groups that big. Highlights were nice meals in the various eateries, a fantastic stage show on the last night called Pirates: Uncut, and lots of dancing (we won 3 bottles of champagne for our Irish and Country dancing (attempts) during the week!). We managed to find a tiny bit of culture in Palma, the capital of the island, but otherwise it was a mini Britain all the way.

On Tuesday we graduated, which was a speedy affair! 150 people up on stage, speeches, prizes and all done by 12.30. We then went home briefly for a Harvester lunch and then back into London in the evening to see Under The Black Flag at the Globe (noticing a somewhat piratical theme?).

Yesterday (Wednesday) was the Grad Ball which went off very well. I was on the committee and designed the tickets (yay me!). Twas a good evening – despite people’s misgivings about a Caelidh a) in heels and dresses and b) in this heat the dances were full to overflowing. If anything the disco bit was less full, although we all turned up for 500 Miles (our song) of course. People got very teary at the end though – lots of hugging etc. as many will not see each other again, especially the Americans. I didn’t – am apparently not soppy. I stayed over Little Chef’s and the Deserter’s house and we went for a lunch today before I wandered home home. Is it wrong to be more excited about this (link to 512 RAM chip) and this (link to GeForce 6 nVidia card) hopefully coming in the post tomorrow than graduating?

That’s that then… hopefully. A 12 hour drinking fest followed (most entertaining) and we spent today in Ikea buying saucepans. Tomorrow I move out. Tis many endings all at once. I’m going to need a wheelie bin to deal with the megamoth that just flew into my room…
