Right, I’ve checked this layout on both IE and Firefox. Twas only ma soeur who pointed out that on IE none of the blue layout worked at all. Now I have a site called bluebird and a brown layout, but eh. The “witty tagline” bit amused me so I decided to leave it in so it would amuse me every time I came here.

*yawns* I should not be awake now. Even Spock has given up yelling to be let out of his bedroom. Even the rabbit has fallen asleep and is ignoring the fact that dinner has been served. And yet still I surf. Meh.

And my weekends on call loom ever closer. Still, between then and now is one remaining free weekend, to dedicate to Christmas shopping. Yes, Christmas. Since rotations are long gone now, and I can’t even count down exams, I shall have to count down Christmas instead. Ready? 15 weekends til Christmas (23rd/24th doesn’t count), and I’m working for 4 of them. Ok, so that is actually still quite a long time. But I have a lot of places to go!

Kitten
*looks innocent* Me? Get sucked in by the fluffy cuteness of a kitten? You jest!

Coz I know you love to hear what I spend my hard not-yet-earned cash on (roll on payday), let’s have some reviews this early Sunday morning.

A while ago I purchased a 512MB RAM card and a GeForce 6200 512MB graphics card. Probably a deserved upgrade for my computer, although I was only getting them so as I could play EVE again. The upgrade in RAM doesn’t seem to have affected my computer; I still get lags, although of course both upgrades did let me play EVE and probably my other new games too. However, less than a month of EVE and I’ve already cancelled my subscription. It ain’t what it used to be ;)

A diehard Civ II fan from the days of old (and still play it), I bought Civ IV recently. I have to say, don’t bother. I don’t really see the attraction of these populous-style curvy boing 3d cartoony games. Civ II was basic by comparison, but so much easier to use. Civ IV is not intuitive, is very like Populous in graphics (very Round World, if you know what I mean, and as far as I’m concerned, the Turtle Moves). Civ IV I’m sure is very clever and very intricate and a mega AI machine, but I was bored after one hour stint of playing.

Next, or rather, at the same time as Civ IV, I bought a Belkin wireless USB jobbie, for use should one find themselves sans internet in a hotspot. This works, and it’s dead simple and dead cheap. Bargain.

I got sick of my hosting company having problems with the server I was on, and the lack of support (you get what you pay for I suppose), so after 3 long years of loyal customership, I jumped said ship and got a new hoster. So far so good – they transfered 14 sites for me within a few hours, and then successfully fixed all transfer bugs in a reasonable time. I doubt they are perfect, but so far they are doing better than the old one. The only downside is that they don’t offer backup, so I now have to keep my own backups. However, following recent blog loss despite server backups this is perhaps not a bad thing.

A while ago now I wanted Sandi Thom’s new single, and instead decided to buy the album, since I figured I liked both her singles (I Wish I was a Punk Rocker (with flowers in my hair) being the first one – the title of this post is from an observation made by a Virgin DJ; that not many punk rockers wore flowers). The rest of the album is brilliant – if you liked her second song What If I’m Right you’ll love most of these as she has the same wry humour in several of them, and if you love sad songs she has some of those too. Good album.

I also bought I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie, a band and song I’ve never heard of, but someone on a forum posted it as inspiration for some art and I got hooked to the cute but sad video. Very cute if you like soppy snivvelfests. About bunnies.

Lastly, love these guys. Love love love. They are OK Go. I saw their treadmill video to Here It Goes Again, then their dance to A Million Ways, and then I bought their album. Also fantastic, has some stellar toons. Just hearing it makes me want to dance in a very silly fashion! Their videos are a lot of fun and it carries over into their music.

And that is the end of Wot Kai Bort this morning, thank you for your attention.

A few months ago I noticed a lot of referral links from Technorati, a suspicious looking blog collecting site. Being somewhat paranoid, I was indeed most suspicious. However I quickly forgot about it. Then, last night, as I was trying to sleep and failing miserably I suddenly though “Lo! What about that blog collecting site?! Perhaps it doth contain my lost posteths!” and indeed (after some advanced searching and the use of the word “waffle”) it did. And so, where server and tech support have failed, a dodgy looking blog collecting site succeeded.

Doesn’t mean I’m gonna stop suspecting them though >.>

Due to a server failure and a run of bad luck, my blog got et. Luckily, being the hoarder I am, I’d backed it up in June. So only a month or so of blog lost. Ne’ermind. My laptop crashes a couple of years ago taught me to accept the loss of data and memories calmly.
Tomorrow I get t’internet! And t’phone and t’digital TV, although my ancient TV that lacks even phono sockets let alone a scart socket can’t actually connect to cable. So I’s getting myself a TV too at some point.

Other than that, what other news was deleted? Final year holiday in Magaluf in July was an experience, Grad Ball (the Final Fling) was a huge success but very sad to be never seeing most people again, oh and I passed and am now a working vet! And I went to Stratford-Upon-Avon and discovered a newfound-previously-thought-non-existant love for Shakespeare acted properly, oh and I went to Soton to visit sister and Little Chef in her home territory. Typical that the month that gets et should be one of the most eventful of the last two and a half years.

I’m enjoying my job – it was a trial by fire in the first week, what with being on call on day 2 (yikes!) and being in charge of wards for the first two weeks. Now it’s a bit quieter as we’ve taken on another vet too, one who happened to be in my year at college, so it’s all good. The branch surgery I’m attached too (seems like 1 day a week will be spent there) has a nurse who’s as mad about rabbits, guinea-pigs and rats as me, and we’re hoping to go somewhere with that. My flat is nice, bar somewhat inconsiderate neighbours, although I’ve discovered a glass of wine soon makes their rather crap stupidly loud jazz music almost bearable. Wait – my flat was a dive when I moved it. It’s nice now we’ve removed the ciggy butts and beer cans. And got someone to remove the Tesco’s trolley. This weekend was almost civilised; parental units visiting on Sat for tea and cakes and them bringing the Beast (now featured on the banner above) with them, plus some more furniture, and Nice Housemate from the old house visiting on Sunday, where we had sunday lunch, watched Kronk’s New Groove (AnM, I still have that btw) and walked to the seaside and sat on the sea wall watching high tide.

Checking in

I’m sans internet and coping! Well, I’ve managed to last from Tuesday til Thursday. Which isn’t that long. But eh. I’ve ordered internet for my new place which will hopefully be installed in a week or so.

Otherwise, things are good! The new job is a trial by fire, with me being on call on my own on day two O.O. I’m slowly gathering my little tool kit of “what to do if…” plans, which means I don’t have to leave the room so often to read a book during consults! I do need to start learning drug doses as I have to leave to look them up still. Might write some down in my little book.

As far as it goes though, this job looks like to give me a more confident grounding that the internship I applied for. It’s week one and I’ve done 3 routine ops (considering I’m not there to do ops, only to mop up ops when the op vet is overworked) and 3 major proceedures that an intern wouldn’t be allowed to do. The last one was very exciting as I wasn’t expecting it to work (being a tricky procedure) and it did!

The flat is cool, bar the people downstairs who think it’s acceptable to have their music at full volume so as I can hear even the words. I may get an amp and some nice bass speakers, place them face down on the floor and listen to some Rammstein perhaps. So yes – blog on hold really until I get myself netted up. ttfn!
