I’m watching River Cottage. HFW went “flesh free” for the summer – no meat and no fish. He’s not a vegetarian and isn’t planning to become one, but it’s part of the “eat less meat” campaign, as as a culture we’re over reliant on it. To not eat meat and fish for a while means you do have to become a lot more inventive and experimental with veg. I’m very tempted… Could I go veggie for 2012? No point starting before Christmas but I can start winding down the freezer meat and fish levels now. I’d have to keep dairy products on, and eggs, but I go free-range with the eggs already and fairly good with happy milk. It could help Mum too, since she needs more protein rich veggie meals to eat, rather than her having to eat meat under duress in order to boost her protein intake to vaguely normal levels.
That said – I could start before Christmas – I love nut roast, and I’m not too bothered re: turkey etc. I shall review freezer and can cupboard stocks tonight…
This is a turn up for the books…
I did it for 6 weeks once at lent and had a nice time and found it quite easy, but my god when that roast lamb was put in front of me on Easter Sunday I scoffed it down like no ones business!!!! If u become veggie who I will be sad!!!! Do it for a summer like Hugh did, when the veggies are nice and fresh and local.
