… I’m reading it.
I blame AnM of course.
AnM spent much of our holiday reading, watching and thinking about Twilight, so much so that on the Monday after getting back I found myself in Borders buying the first three books. And of course under two weeks later and I’m two-thirds of the way through book 3. There is a book 4, but it’s hardback, so I’m waiting to see if it’s a little cheaper by the time I get to it. Given book 3 is being consumed rather than read, I suspect not.
I heard lots about this series before reading it. In the various communities I’m a member of it has been flamed and lauded equally; with “if you don’t buy it I’ll make you read my copy” threats from my friend at work and watching movie clips with AnM in Bulgaria (as you do) I thought I’d better read it and find out what the hubbub was all about. It’s marketed as better than HP, but it’s not – the plot is not that strong or consistent, and the characters are not as developed as I would like (they seem to get over things very quickly!)- it’s written as well as a good fanfic, but no better. It remains compelling though (there are a good fanfics that have captured me). But as I am someone who’ll happily read the back of a cereal packet, that’s probably not a massive endorsement.
It’s no Anne Rice novel, but it’s pleasant easy reading. And of course there’s Kai’s favourite anti-hero character – this time Carlisle – the first “vegetarian” vampire. Though although the actor who plays him in the film is suitably yummy (Peter Facinelli), the hair seems hit and miss in photos…
Very pretty though. And shock-horror, his real name doesn’t begin with a J! Though he is Italian (my colleagues decreed I was no longer English some time last year, and I am in fact Italian by association. I’m not entirely sure that’s how it works…)
HUFF. I resent taking the blame….although it is probably justified
EDWARD ROX!
You brought a snack?!?!….
I did! He is called Carlisle. *snack snack snack*
Sorry.
