*thinks back* now…what did I do to deserve this? The laptop has gone wrong again. Worse – it’s going seriously wrong (not booting, spontaneously restarting when it does manage it) but I can bet you anything that it’ll behave when I send it back again. Last night I could get it to crash (see why I was trying later) pretty much on command. This morning, I overwhelmed it but couldn’t get it to crash. Luckily last night I filmed it booting and failing to boot, and then on the suggestion of the Frog I caused it to restart and filmed it restarting!
Sounds to me and my dad like some kind of hard drive failure – chkdsk finds errors but can’t fix them (I reported that to the technicians but they did nothing about it). Dad’s computer did a similar thing only a few days ago and his technicians (company computer) simply replaced the hdd.
You get what you pay for I suppose.
On a pluser note, my rat project has finished and it looks like I’ll have some fun doing stats on it – lots to look at. Also tis a house warming for a friend tonight so I get to be social and all that.
Pfft. Idiots. If it wouldn’t do it this morning it sounds like maybe you need to use it for a bit first, to overload it? If it’s just switched on it can just about cope but if it’s already been asked to do stuff before it can’t? I’m probably talking rubbish, as usual 😀
How many rats did you end up with?
It appears to be independent of load – sometimes it crashes when I am doing nothing more than chatting on aim, othertimes it doesn’t crash when I try and open EVE, Trill, Moz, MozMail, My Comp, FTP and Petz at the same time. And that should crash anything – you should see the resources EVE uses alone.
I got 298 rats, but a good few of them are lacking either coat colour or pattern. Most patterns I can guess (i.e. if someone submitted a "Chocolate Hooded" and then a "White" I assume the white is a self white.). Colours I could guess but it’s not worth it – I can just exclude them. It’s been quite interesting so far – there appears to be no effect on life span for eye colour or sex, but initially it looked like rexes and satins didn’t live as long as normal coated rats. However that was before I got to the 50 month old rexes that someone had submitted :O All good fun though! Shame the program (SPSS) that does it is only available at college or I could play with it now. That really would try and crash Larry – terrible program on the little NTs at college.
Interesting! Satin gpigs don’t live as long, usually….or didn’t used to anyway.
50 months… :O
:O Wow, that’s old – 50 months! And you got billions of ratties – yay.
But keep that study away from lappy now 🙂
Awwww rexies…love rexies.
