As well as being a nerd. Bonus.
Well, my lovely little mini keyboard has decided that after a good 6 or so years of function it is time to leave my employ. The up arrow has been soggy since it was half pried off some time ago (these mini boards are a pain to put keys back onto) and today ‘b’ and ‘n’ are clacking when going down and failing to register on all hits. So time to get a new one.
I saw one of these for less than a tenner – Acer Revo board. The review says they aren’t so comfy to use though, and tbh with my black shiny LED sullied case, black monitor, black speakers, black or grey mouse (depending on whether the Wacom tablet mouse (the grey one) has been thrown across the room for failing to scroll properly on Ubuntu), shiny white in the absence of anything Apple flavoured is a bit…
Essex.
So I think maybe not. The other option is to fulfil a desire I have apparently harboured since 1995 (didn’t realise until Googling just how long it’s been). Remember Hackers? The film – they hacked over payphones and such, made money spit out of ATMs etc. Well, whether you remember or you don’t, in Hackers one of the guys spray painted his keyboard twice – base colour and then a pattern. Naturally, there’s a how-to.
So I think I’ll find the cheapest keyboard I can find (£3 on ebay currently – and lovely beige “almond” too, just to give that extra bit of happiness, de-almonding something) and then spend more than the cost of a decent replacement keyboard on spray paint. Not sure I’ll do camouflage though – perhaps something less 14 year old boy.
Complete aside but I was very happy today as although I’ve lost 3 months of work, the cause of the error that resulted in it has been found and fixed, so I am no longer in the doldrums. I can crack on. Onwards!
